But even though I was sick, Mrs. Day made sure you had an AMAZING day! I am gonna steal the rest of the blog from her so you at home can see what we did today!
From Mrs. Day:
I am SO lucky to have the best class at Eisenhower Elementary in my classroom this year. Everyone stayed on task, was patient and understanding when things weren't exactly like they normally are, and we got a LOT accomplished.
Our pumpkin groups worked together to finish up our Pumpkin Books with help from Mrs. Elder. We used our 5 senses to describe our pumpkins. Unfortunately, many of us had to use the word MOLDY and ROTTEN to describe them :(
We did Calendar Book together and a big Hunk & Chunk review, as well as learned our new ones: _ay, _ai_, and eigh. If you can tell me 3 words that have eigh in them, I will pay you $1 at morning meeting tomorrow!
Then, we had a quick Daily 5 Choice and Reading PRIME Time. Before we knew it, it was time for Reading. We finished our Vocabulary Concentration cards on Google Docs, read Volcanoes, and used Jello and Apples to talk about the Earth's layers and how plates of the earth collide to form volcanoes. Lots of science, and lots of GREAT discussions!
We worked together to carve our pumpkin faces before lunch so we could erupt them. Unfortunately, we didn't get the elephant toothpaste to work quite right, so we all used baking soda and vinegar. But man, our pumpkins sure vomited some bright colors! :) Check out the pictures on the pictures tab!
We ended our day with our 3 Math Rotations. We learned some new menu games, and I think it's safe to say that Multiplication War and Bump are some new hits! I heard lots of excitement around the room. Especially when the power went off! But I was SO proud of how you handled your behavior. Many of you became problem solvers: you found flashlights or moved near the window to get some light and continue working.
Did I already say that this is a great group of kids? You sure made this teacher's day a lot better by having good behavior. You should be proud! I sure am!
Okay, after reading all you did I am even more sad about being sick. I did go to the doctor today and they gave me a shot to help with my headache so I should be back tomorrow! Thank you for helping Mrs. Day out and for being the kind of class I can count on! YOU ALL ARE ROCKSTARS!
