What a FUN Friday!  Our morning seemed to FLY by because we worked on an English paper where we had to identify different parts of speech.  We were really good at finding the NOUNS and VERBS but the ADJECTIVES and ADVERBS stumped us a bit.

After we finished up our morning jobs and our English we played a couple of games of SPELLING BINGO to review our spelling words before our test today!  YIKES!  Homophones can be tricky because we have to know the meaning of the word as well as the spelling.  There, their, and they're really made us think.

We also took our reading selection test over our story, "How My Family Lives  in America".  I was hoping at least 85% of the class would score a 100% so we could walk to Braum's for some ice cream, our highest score was a 94%.  No one scored a 100%.  Even thougth the end of the year is near, we really need to be working hard to score a 100%.  I do want to remind mom and dad that I do allow the kids to use their reading books on the test so really A's and B's are very attainable.  Please encourage your child to reread the story with you at home the night before the selection test.

We also attended 5th grade businesses this morning!  What a fun time we had!  There was food and games and tons of prizes handed out.  The kids spent classroom money they have earned while they were shopping around.  The more money they had... the more they were able to do.  Earning that money is super important and they are finding that out more and more each day!

This afternoon we headed down to Susan's Portrait Designs for a field trip.  The author of our story this week began her work as a photographer so we though it would be neat to see the "behind the scenes" action at an actual studio.  Susan spent a lot of time with us and taught us all about taking pictures.  She and Rodger gave us a tour of the studio, showed us what happens to a picture from start to finish.  We even got to see a HUGE printer printing a very big picture.  We were all AMAZED at how many props and backgrounds she had to use.  Lots of us had really good questions for her.  Did you know she has a master's degree and that her studio uses natural lightening when she photographs someone.  We thought those things were really INTERESTING.  After Susuan talked to us and Rodger showed us everything in their back room then our class even got their picture taken.  We stood on a white background and everyone smiled!  It was GREAT!  I have included some pictures for you at home to enjoy!  We want to send a big THANK YOU shout out to Susan and Rodger for allowing us to visit them!  It's GREAT to have such a NEAT place right here in Wellington!

This weekend the kids may have to finish:
1.  English morning work parts of speech page
2. A skittles math page
3.  Handwriting books through page 30

April is flying by fast so if they do not have their 5 points for APRIL they need to also be reading an AR book.

Have a SUPER weekend!

    Our Goal:

Our hope to encourage the children in our classroom to love learning the way we do.  Through engaging them in meaningful activities we are certain they will develop a curiosity that will spark their imagination and cause them to want discover all they can while in third grade.  We hope to be able to share, with those of you at home,  everyday  what we have accomplished in the classroom!  Trust us, we will be doing AMAZING things!
