We began with a short talk about how important staying caught up with homework is. Several of them are getting just a tad bit lazy when it comes to finishing things and handing them in on time which is making grading a rather large job for me. After our discussion today I am hoping they will whip themselves back in shape for a few more weeks so they can all prove just how ready they are for fourth grade.
After our talk we finished up our morning jobs, took care of our daily fix it morning work page, and had our exploration science lesson with Mr. Finn. All of us have Brine Shrimp that have hatched and lots of them are growing. I will be sending these home tomorrow so that the everyone can watch them for a little while longer. Mr. Finn did say that after a couple of weeks they will all die because of the cup that we have them in, but in the meantime, they eat just a few pieces of yeast and they have been really fun to watch grow and change.
After science we headed to PE and then it was time for us to discuss our collage project. After our field trip to Susan's on Friday we decided since each kiddo really showed an interest in taking pictures we would work on a collage project with them. Each group of four have been given a disposable camera to use for the project. Susan talked a great deal to them about perspective, lighting, backgrounds, and different angles a photographer might use to get that perfect picture. Each member of our group has a chance to take 6 pictures of his or her very own. Once our film is developed they will work together to create a collage using at least 12 of their pictures to define the phrase that their group received. Phrases include things like "April showers mean spring is near" or "Put your best foot forward". The kids did an OUTSTANDING job today working together and starting on their pictures. I am really anxious to see what we get when I have their film developed. They are having to be very careful in trying to collect an interesting photo when they cannot see what they have taken. We are all very accustomed to the digital world where we can see results immediately so only time will tell how the pictures will turn out. Hopefully by Friday morning we will be collaging it up!
This afternoon we took a virtual tour of the Statue of Liberty since that is what we are reading about this week. We also took our Spelling pretest and did a journal page reviewing fractions.
Tonight they might need to finish:
-daily fix it morning work
-journal page 201-202
-read AR if they have not qualified for our April challenge yet
Have a GREAT evening!
