After our morning meeting and routine, we got busy in our COMPOSITION notebooks with a prompt that is related to our Reading story, "Happy Birthday, Mr. Kang!" I hope you are all starting to really focus on your writing and place a CAPITAL LETTER where it belongs and INDENTING when you start your writing. Remember to use those adjectives to make your writing SPARKLE!
After writing, we studied our spelling words and completed a Homophone worksheet to see if we really knew the meanings of our words before we took our spelling test later in the morning. Then, we completed our Problem of the Week and Estimation Jar activities. MILO was the winner of our estimation jar this week! He estimated that there were 56 chocolate hearts in our jar and there were actually 60, so he was very close. Then, we practiced our multiplication facts with Ms. Jamison's class before going to PE.
After PE where Mrs. Elder was our PE Teacher for the Day, we took our multiplication test. I am happy to report that there were SEVERAL of you who passed your multiplication test, but you'll have to wait until Tuesday to find out who you are! :) Next, we completed our final rotation of Daily 5 for the week, then we took our spelling test. Several of you did not finish up your Daily 5 for this week, so I hope you remembered to take those activities home to finish up since we'll have a new Daily 5 for next week.
After recess, lunch and Math MTSS, we had music. Then, our math lesson was led by Mrs. Renn. We finished up our Math Review from yesterday. Most everyone did a great job following along with Mrs. Renn. Next, we used a worksheet to review place value up to one hundred million place. Most everyone found this activity very challenging, so as a class we only completed the first three sections and then put them in our To Do Folders to work on more next week.
At the end of the day, we took some time to learn more about the Chinese New Year. Unfortunately our technology was not cooperating with us, so we weren't able to watch our the videos we have on our website, but everyone was able to get a Chromebook and look at the pictures and read the information available to them to complete their Chinese New Year Scavenger Hunt with a partner. Those worksheets should have all gotten finished, as we had PLENTY of time to get them done. If a group didn't finish, they were told to take them home over the weekend to complete. Finally, we ended the day by making our own Chinese lanterns. These will be hung up around the classroom so we can see our beautiful artwork!
Homework this weekend is the Reading Calendar (please bring it back on Tuesday!) and any unfinished work. I reminded everyone on Friday before the bell to take any unfinished work out of their folders. I hope you all listened since you have a three day weekend to get it all done!
Remember, no school on Monday! The teachers will be BUSY, BUSY, BUSY getting some training, so we will see you at school on Tuesday! Enjoy this beautiful weekend weather!!!
