Wow what an AMAZING way to end our week! Friday we knew in the morning that it was going to be a FULL day for sure and we ROCKED our schedule and what do you know EVERYTHING was able to be finished before we headed home for the 3 day weekend!
We started with a FUN show and tell. We were visited by Bella A.'s dog and by her little brother. WOO HOO! It was a two for one share day and we learned all about both of them! Super job being student of the week last week Bella! After show and tell we joined up for our morning meeting! These have been SUPER since we have combined and are doing them ALL together! Mrs. Jenkins' riddle was the one drawn so she got told GOOD MORNING from everyone in 3rd grade and she was grinning from ear to ear! Then we all greeted people in our HOUSE because we were super excited about the house challenge ahead of us! Mrs. Day and Mrs. Jenkins watched some AMAZING house handshakes and could feel the excitement in the air! Third grade was buzzing for sure!
While we were taking care of CALENDAR BOOK, SPELLING SORT CARDS, and HANDWRITING we also jetted down to the office for a quick DENTAL SCREENING. EVERYONE got a brand new tooth brush and a dentist took a quick look at our mouths! We sure are glad almost everyone in here had remembered to brush their teeth! That should be an important part of our morning routine!
Next, it was time to practice for our PENGUIN PRESENTATIONS! Each group shared with the class everything they had learned about their penguin species! Presentations were AMAZING as far as eye contact and voice level. Since we have presented before everyone seemed a little more confident. Large penguins looked TERRIFIC too. We have some really talented artists in third grade. Where we want you to reflect a bit is on the research that your group did. Facts were definitely given, but very few groups shared UNIQUE, INTERESTING facts. We heard the same facts repeated quite often. As soon as we get your video feed from Mrs. Elder we will post it to the website so you can all see your teaching in action!
To end the morning we made some DELICIOUS food penguins out of carrots, black olives, and creme cheese! They sure were cute! Check the picture tab to see how they turned out!
House CHALLENGES started after lunch and we are willing to bet we don't have to remind you of how much FUN this was!! We had three challenges and each one of them was a HUGE hit! Friday was ARCTIC CHALLENGE day and everything had to do with PENGUINS and SNOW! For our first challenge we had to line up with our HOUSE and place a tennis ball in between our legs and waddle down around a cone and then back to our HOUSE. Everyone on our team had to have a turn and if we dropped the ball we had to grab it and start from there again! We heard cheering and tons of POSITIVITY! Teamwork was at all all time high in third grade! The second challenge was just as exciting. Each house was put in a small square in the all purpose room. Each person was given 3 pieces of paper to make into snowballs. For 2 minutes the most EPIC snowball fight ever took place. At the end of the time we counted to see which house had the FEWEST snowballs in it and that house was the WINNER! To finish our challenge each house had to keep SNOW from hitting the ground. They started in a circle and had to keep their (blown up balloon) SNOW from falling to the ground withOUT one person hitting it twice in a row. If this happened they ALL had to sit down! By the end of the game each HOUSE had 3 snowballs they were trying to keep up in the air! Animo was the first house out but their sportsmanship earned them a few bonus points!! We counted beads and bonus points after school on FRIDAY so be sure to check the wall when you get here TUESDAY morning! Things have changed a bit!!
In math we took care of our MULTIPLICATION TESTS. We tested bridges and we are EXCITED to announce that MR. BOSTON BERND and MR. DAVID DEJESUS were the winners from both sides! They had awesome snowball structures! Next week we start a BRAND NEW MENU so a new challenge will be in the drawers for you to work on! Better be thinking of ways to keep something WARM for this new challenge!! We also ended our Friday with a technology minute check and a little bit of menu time! It was a GREAT way to spend the last hour of our day!
Here's wishing you a FANTASTIC day off tomorrow! Just as soon as we can we will post presentations and house challenge pictures! We can't wait to see you on Tuesday morning!
