Then we took a little time to WRITE in our composition notebooks. When we started these notebooks some of us had a little trouble writing for five minutes, but now we WRITE, WRITE, WRITE and cannot wait to share! I loved the prompt that Mrs. Smith chose today! She asked us to write about someone we ADMIRE. This made us think about all of the people in our lives who work hard, surround us with love, and do their very best in what ever occupation they have chosen! It is so important to have people to look up to in life. No matter how old we are we can all think of people who we admire. This was a GREAT way to start our day and I loved hearing who some of the kiddos wrote about!
We also made vocabulary flash cards to keep in our Mixed Up Files folders to play whenever we have free time. This will help us so much with our vocabulary test on THURSDAY! Last week SEVEN of us scored a 100% on our vocabulary test and I am willing to bet that this week even more of us will earn a PERFECT SCORE! Understanding the vocabulary used in this story is a big part of being able to understand the story itself. We are loving the chance to see what Claudia and Jamie are up to each day and are excited to hear about their adventures. We do have to know what words like MAIM and MODEST mean though or the story just doesn't make sense. Study those words for us this week please!
In the afternoon, we read Mixed Up Files chapter 6, worked on our SPELLING SORT CARDS, learned a little about CONJUNCTIONS, and then headed to our State Assessment Kickoff Assembly! We played Human Hungry Hippos with fourth and fifth grade to help us prepare for tomorrow's state assessments!
TOMORROW ARE THE FIRST ROUND OF READING STATE ASSESSMENTS! Parents, please check folders for important notes about what's happening this week.
Sleep tight. Eat a big breakfast. Look sharp. Have your brain fired up and ready to go! We believe in you. We've been preparing for these all year and you are going to do GREAT!
Mrs. Jenkins and Mrs. Smith
PS ~ NO reading calendar this week! We want you to focus on state assessments and we know that you ALL deserve a break this week! =)
