We are in the process of doing a lot of beginning of the year testing. Your teachers need to know what you kiddos know before we start getting into our reading and math lessons. So Miss Jamison, Mrs. Barkley, and Miss Johannson listened to lots of students read today, and they'll continue to listen to students all week long. We also started our reading story, Boomtown, today! It's a story all about Amanda who moves to California during the Gold Rush. Her family quickly learns that you can't make much money panning gold; but you can baking pies! The tiny town in California quickly grew as more and more people started businesses.
We worked on a Gold Rush scavenger hunt with a partner, and made our spelling sort cards for the very first time. Our first spelling test will be on THURSDAY, since we don't have school on Friday. Make sure you look over your words every night.
We also took a math test or a reading test on the Chromebooks. When we were finished, we did our very first math lesson. This new curriculum is going to be GREAT! Already on the first day of the second week of third grade we are MULTIPLYING! WOWZER! We'd better hold on to our hats, because this stuff is sure to keep us on our toes this year! To end our marvelous Monday, we had a nice afternoon recess outside.
Thanks for working hard and making me proud to be your teacher. Have a wonderful evening!
