Next, we headed to our Exploration Place Science lesson where we talked all about TRAITS. We made aliens and then made our aliens adapt to a new environment. Our aliens had everything from extra toes to only one eye! Pretty creative scientists were at work for sure! Mr. Finn will be taking over for Ms. Greer after today and we all got to meet him today. The kids were sad to see Ms. Greer go, but she has taken a new position working for a college so we decided to help her celebrate and then we welcomed Mr. Finn.
For reading, we reviewed fact and opinion again today and then discussed our "SODA BOTTLE" famous athlete projects. Because we are learning all about Gertrude Ederle we have decided to do some investigating to see what other athletes are out there that we could learn about. Today was a RESEARCH day and we all tried to decide who we will be studying about. Tomorrow we will spend some time looking at what we found and then we will write two paragraphs about the athlete we chose. The first paragraph will be FACTS about the athlete, and then the second paragraph will be our OPINION of why this athlete is important to us. Once we do our writing then we will begin designing our POP BOTTLE to look like our athlete. We want to finish these by Friday so we can read them to the class and then display them in the library. I have attached a green button above that shows some examples of pop bottle people and also a book of some examples FACT paragraphs about famous athletes! I told the kids today that I will have some supplies here at school for them to use, but they can also bring things from home to use and they can even take their bottles home to finish up on Thursday evening if they are not able to finish it at school.
For math we reviewed what a polygon is and then went straight into centers. At one center the kids worked on a journal page with me. At another center I let them research their athlete. At the third center they partnered up and played BUG OFF reviewing multiplication and addition facts. Several of them reached 1,000 points while playing the game!
Tonight they may need to finish:
1. Spelling workbook page
2. Reading workbook page over vocabulary
3. Journal page139-140
4. A perimeter morning work page
I also sent home a valentines list today. Our valentines party will be on Friday. The kids can start bringing their valentines anytime between now and then.
Have a GREAT evening!
