We started today with a RAINBOW WRITE morning work page on our desk. Some of them were able to finish it BEFORE our morning meeting time which was AWESOME! This is a little harder for our mayor, treasurer, secretary, and mail carriers to do because they are busy taking care of their jobs! I explained to them this morning that they just need to work on morning work throughout the day so that they can stay caught up. They will get the hang of it soon enough. If they did not finish the page, they stuck it in their TO DO FOLDER to work on throughout the day.
After jobs were done, we moved straight in to our morning meeting! I told them that I was SUPER IMPRESSED because it is only TUESDAY morning and I already owe several people pops, candy bars, and classroom money! Check out our BRAIN BOOSTER page because the 20 questions, hinky pinky, and mystery number for the week have already been solved! Miss Addison also figured out the NICKEL puzzle from the MATH CHAPTER ONE tab. WOW! I love that so many of them are on our WEBSITE checking things out.
For reading today we finished our centers from last week. They worked on a timeline with me, read the story with Mrs. A, answered vocabulary questions at technology time, or worked on a vocabulary workbook page at their independent center. Once centers were finished up, we reviewed our VOCABULARY words for this week! I had lots of MILK DUD WINNERS today and trust me once the good old candy bag came out EVERYONE was ready to answer my story questions! When we finished the review, I reread the story to all of them and as I read they put 10 sentences from the story in the correct order. They really had to LISTEN because they did not have a book in front of them, but I think they did a GREAT job! We decided that Amanda was a very SMART young lady and that her pie baking business not only saved her, but her PA too!
This afternoon we RACED to get through MATH so that we could start BUILDING our very own houses for our COMMUNITY project! Houses are looking good. We are having to work on our patience a little because GLUE doesn't dry as quickly as we would like it to! =) Before building, we listened to a RANDOM NUMBER song and as it sounded out numbers we wrote the number we HEARD, the number BEFORE what we heard, and the number AFTER what we heard on our paper. This is tricky if we DO NOT stay focused. Once our CD activity was finished we put together our MATH INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK. We added a 100 chart today and then made a CLOCK to practice telling time with. We ALL did OUTSTANDING with this practice. To finish up math we reviewed how to use a few MATH TOOLS and did JOURNAL PAGE 5 together. It was a GREAT review and I loved seeing what all they remembered from LAST YEAR! Tomorrow we will finish it up by collecting some DATA and finding a few statistical landmarks.
To end the day we had about a 5 MINUTE recess! The day absolutely FLEW BY and I heard so many of them say... "Time to go home. Not already!" That makes me SUPER EXCITED for our year! We are rocking and rolling and doing TERRIFIC things in third grade!
Tonight they do have a MATH PAPER with 10 addition problems on it and a READING CALENDAR to do. Please check their RED TAKE HOME FOLDERS for these two papers and look at their AGENDAS for me!
Have a FABULOUS evening!
