After our discussion, we did our TUESDAY DOL page together and filled out our agendas so we would know the plan for today! I really like when we fill those out first thing in the morning so we don't have to worry about them throughout the day! Remember things they have HIGHLIGHTED are things they have for homework! Make sure each night they are cleaning out their BLUE HOMEWORK FOLDERS. Some of them are getting pretty full!
After DOL was done, we played a game in READING sorting cards between REALISM and FANTASY piles. The kids did an AMAZING job distinguishing between these 2 categories. The all thought things like "sitting on the couch is comfortable" or "I like to read before I go to bed" were things that belonged in the REALISM pile. Then they all realized that things like "my dog did my homework" or " A cow jumped over the moon" would be things that fell into the FANTASY pile. Realism and Fantasy are two vocabulary words we have learned with this story and the kiddos are doing a GREAT job of telling the difference between the two.
After our GAME, we did all 4 centers today since we had yesterday off! At the computers we reviewed NOUNS. With me, everyone worked on WRITING a 3 POINT PARAGRAPH. At their seats the kiddos worked on a SPELLING LADDER WRITE. In the class library they partnered up and worked on answering 3 ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS from our story. Don't forget that our SELECTION TEST is TOMORROW so it might be a good idea to listen to the story again this evening!
This afternoon we took a PRE-TEST on ADAPTED MIND so that I can see just what everyone knows from the 3rd grade math curriculum. Now that they have finished those tests they will work through problems they struggled with and their goal will be to master the ENTIRE 3rd GRADE CURRICULUM before the end of MAY. They do have a note to show you so that you can see how they can log at home to practice and how you can log on to check their progress!
To end the day we started working on our CLASSROOM COMMUNITY. The kiddos are SUPER excited about this project. We have learned so much about a community that today we actually started building our own. They each are making their own HOUSES right now and then we will add the BUSINESSES we think we need. Our Mayor, Secretary, and Treasurer started building ROADS today and they even took time to add a LAKE. I can't wait to see how it turns out! Hopefully we can finish it by FRIDAY! =)
Tonight please check for their Adapted Mind note, their book order, and help them clean out their BLUE FOLDERS. For homework they do have a MATH WORKSHEET to do. I told them that they only have to do the EVEN problems! The odds are for EXTRA credit so remind them that the do NOT have to do the ENTIRE page.
Also remind them tomorrow that we are having our LEMONADE STAND so they might want to bring a QUARTER so they can buy some LEMONADE!
Have a GREAT EVENING!
