Today we jumped right in with a LADDER WRITE activity this morning. It is a clever little way for us to practice our SPELLING WORDS. Now, don't forget...we DO NOT have a spelling test tomorrow. Our first spelling test will be on Friday, September 9th so we've got some time to study our words, but the more we look at them the easier our test will be.
Next, we talked about the difference between REALISM and FANTASY. After we all understood the difference, we went through some BOOK ORDERS finding book covers that represent FANTASY books and book covers that represent books written with REALISM. We cut the covers out and glued them to a T-CHART to help us remember what type of books fit each genre.
After our whole group READING lesson, we broke in to our centers. We had time for 2 centers today and we will finish the other 2 tomorrow. Reading centers were:
1. Making a timeline of the GOLD RUSH with me
2. Reading "Boom Town" with Ms. Anderson
3. Filling out a paper using our READING TAB on our website
4. Working on a VOCABULARY reading workbook page
Our centers took us right up to RECESS and LUNCH.
After lunch, we finished up our STORY, "Third Grade Angels" and then we ALL took an Accelerated Reader Test over the story. In third grade the kiddos can test on books I read to them, books they read with Ms. A, books they read to you at home, and books they read to themselves. We have MONTHLY AR CHALLENGES and EVERYONE is working EXTREMELY HARD to earn their POINTS. This first challenge includes points they earn in AUGUST and SEPTEMBER. Everyone needs to earn 4 points. You might ask them how they did on this first test. It was a little tougher, because they didn't have a book in front of them, instead they had to listen while I read the story. My read alouds sometimes take a couple of weeks as well so sometimes doing well on a read aloud is tough, but if they really listen it is just one more way for them to earn POINTS.
In math we did 2 rotations again today. We will finish these up tomorrow too. Our lessons today reviewed place value, addition, and using a 100 board. Our rotations were:
1. Journal page 3 with me
2. Place Value quizmo with Ms. A
3. Playing the place value games on the CHAPTER 1 MATH tab on our
4. Working on an ADDITION PAGE at our seats
Once math rotations were done it was time to check TO DO FOLDERS, FILL OUT AGENDAS, and head to recess. Don't forget tonight to please sign agendas and clean out TAKE HOME FOLDERS. All of them have the READING CALENDAR for homework and a few of them have another paper or 2 to finish up.
Hope you are having a FANTASTIC evening! Can't wait for PIE BAKING tomorrow!
