Once our MORNING JOBS were finished and everyone had been paid, we started on our last JOHNNY APPLESEED project. We practiced following directions by putting together a Johnny Appleseed person. His hat even had the LEGEND on it so we reread that and everyone shared who at home liked our apple crisp and who at home thought maybe we shouldn't cook that often! =) I love how HONEST the kids are with me!
After our person was made we started our WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY reading centers. These include:
-a SPELLING practice page and then spelling our words with scrabble
-reading a LEVELED READER with me and then taking an AR test over it
-filling out a VOCABULARY DICTIONARY with all of our new words
-playing CAUSE AND EFFECT GAMES on our WEBSITE
We will finish these centers up tomorrow so please be sure to ask your child which centers they went to today and if they were able to get them finished today or if they are in their TO DO FOLDERS.
After that we reviewed how the BFG captures DREAMS in our story and then we all got our very own JAR to capture a dream in. We had to draw our dream, label our dream, and then describe our dream! Boy oh boy do I have some very CREATIVE kiddos in here! I had several SCARY dreams, a few just okay dreams, and then some very awesome PHIZWIZZARDS which are dreams you just never want to wake up from! We will display our DREAM JARS in the hallway so if you have a chance to come in and check them out I know the kiddos would love showing them to you!
In MATH we hiked to Dillons to do some SHOPPING of our own. If Alexander is spending money on things like half used candles and one eyed bears we thought we had better practice our shopping skills too. We divided the class in to four groups and each group was responsible for finding prices of part of the items on our shopping list. Once we got back to school each group shared their findings with the class and we figured the TOTAL AMOUNT of money we would have spent if we actually would have bought the items while we were at the STORE! It was a FABULOUS MATH lesson and the kiddos did an INCREDIBLE job with adding up the TOTAL!
We had a lot more QUALIFY for our AR CELEBRATION today! WOO HOO! I hate with kids miss out on this, but be sure and remind them that we will have a NEW CHALLENGE each month so if they did not make it to this PARTY they can READ, READ, READ and be sure to make it in to OCTOBER'S.
Please be sure each night that you are helping them clean out the TAKE HOME FOLDERS. All graded papers need to stay at home. Some folders are pretty FULL right now and it helps us here at school if they come back clean each day. Also make sure you are signing their agendas for them. They earn an extra dollar for your signature and trust me on STORE DAYS that money comes in HANDY!
Have a GREAT evening!
