Our morning was a little different because we did have to take the READING MAPS test in the library. It was a lot of reading and about 40 questions to answer but it is a GREAT way to tell what everyone is learning this year so we did our VERY BEST! We will take it again in the winter and then one last time in the spring. As hard as we are all working I know scores will IMPROVE over the course of the year. As they finished the test up they came in and took care of any missing work and worked a little more on our COMMUNITY!
In reading we did read our new story together. "What About Me" is a fable about a boy who discovers he has had KNOWLEDGE all along even though he spends the story searching for it. It is a SUPER lesson and the kiddos did a GREAT job with putting the events of the story in order. After reading the story, we had just enough time for one center. Our WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY centers include:
-checking out the SEQUENCE items on our STORY TAB
-doing a FLUENCY READ with me
-completing a NOUN MAGAZINE page
-getting out our INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK and putting events in order
You might ask your child which center he or she went to today to see what they are working on and if they were able to finish.
In math we had a SUBTRACTION page to work on. We had a little trouble staying FOCUSED for the LESSON, but after a few people moved their clips we got SERIOUS and were able to CONCENTRATE. Once our lesson was over, we PRACTICED those silly subtraction problems with a few GAMES of SUBTRACTION WAR! I am very HAPPY with how quickly they could get through the games and find a WINNER!
We ended the day with a quick assembly about our CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER. The kiddos each have a PACKET of information in their backpacks explaining this. They WILL NOT be given chocolate to sell without a parent signature from you. The other important piece of information about this is that if they take a box to sell they MUST sell the entire box. Please let me know if you have any questions about this and I will try to answer them for you!
No homework tonight, but I will have a SPECIAL TREAT for any student who brings me a note from mom, dad, or a guardian telling me they played a game of SUBTRACTION WAR against them at home tonight. It would be GREAT if these notes were in your AGENDAS so I could find them first thing tomorrow morning!
Have a TERRIFIC evening!
