After that we went through what our MORNING MEETINGS will look like each day. We high fived a few friends as a way to greet them this morning and some of us had lots to say about what we had been up to over the summer. Next, we went through our NEW CHAMPS program and talked about how we will be using it in 3rd grade and how we will be using in at Ike. We even practiced what a voice level of 0 would sound like and how to move to a work space when asked to. These kiddos are already super SMART because they all figured this stuff out super fast! Gotta say I am loving their eagerness to please, to participate, and to practice anything we need to!
Then we dove in to reading all about David and his troubles with school. David is a energetic boy who just needs the expectations defined for him so that he can be successful. We helped him out by coming up with a few rules we felt were important at school. It was no surprise to me that words like RESPECTFUL, KIND, and CARING came up. I love that everyone in 3rd grade is so willing to help eachother out.
Before we knew it, it was time for recess and lunch. Wow our day was flying by! I even heard one of them say, "Lunch already! No way!" which is music to my ears. After lunch we spent time checking out library books and visiting Mrs. Thompson for music! When our specials were over we read First Day Jitters which we thought was about a young girl named Sarah who was very nervous about her first day at school. We were all SHOCKED when the last page revealed that Sarah was actually a NEW TEACHER and not a new student. It was fun to talk about how ALL of us felt last night with it being the NIGHT BEFORE OUR FIRST DAY OF THIRD GRADE!
To end the day we tye dyed a t-shirt to prepare for our 3rd day of 3rd grade celebration coming up and ate a popsicle to finish up a FANTASTIC FIRST DAY! I can't tell you how excited I am about this school year. I want to thank all of you for trusting me with your child. I promise to love them like they were my very own. Here in 3rd grade we are a family and I truly mean that. I absolutely love being a teacher and can't wait to see your child reach his or her potential this year. Watching them grow from second graders into third graders is an amazing thing! Please let me know if you have any questions along the way!
Have a terrific evening! Can't wait for tomorrow!
