It was a GREAT day for sure! We had soooooo much to do, but we got right to work and were able to just about finish EVERYTHING on my list! YIPEE! We started the morning off with needing to take the STAR reading test so we had a TO DO LIST going. Our to do lists seem to help EVERYONE know what needs to be done and what they should be working on! LOTS of kiddos improved their STAR level which is FANTASTIC! I printed off a parent letter for each of them to show you at home how they did. I also wrote their new levels on the back of their library card. They can always read books that are ABOVE their level, but NEVER BELOW! We are doing TONS of reading so those levels should be CLIMBING HIGHER and HIGHER each time we test.
On our to do list we had:
1. a U.S. map page with questions to do
2. a page about place value to work on
3. we had to partner read our story in the hallway
4. a Learn to Swim clozed reading passage to complete
5. when all of these things were finished we had time to do a little AR reading until everyone finished the STAR test
By the time we wrapped these things up, we had just enough time for a VERY SHORT recess and then we were off to library check out! With our NEW levels on our cards, EVERYONE was EXCITED to get to the library to find a GOOD book!
After lunch we had a little story time and were AMAZED to find out that the third grade class we have been reading about was able to BORROW the money to SAVE Partner. They even took a field trip to the farm to visit the horse and worked TOGETHER as a TEAM to round up 12 little PIGLETS they had let escape. Let's see, I am willing to bet that this TEAMWORK lesson we learned today will help ALL of us be a tad bit more SUCCESSFUL.
In math, we learned ALL about POLYGONS. On the CALENDAR tab of our website, we can watch a short video to review everything we need to know about POLYGONS and then we can LEARN a song to help us remember it all. In centers we worked to build polygons out of PRETZELS and MARSHMALLOWS! YUMMY for sure! After they were all built we quickly devoured them so we could start on our journal page. We also played BUG OFF reviewing our MULTIPLICATION and worked more on ADAPTED MIND.
Behavior today was sooooo much BETTER! I actually felt I saw some signs of "FUTURE FOURTH GRADE" behavior! =) It was an AMAZING day!
Tonight they may need to:
1. finish anything off the to do list that they did not get done at school
2. do the rest of journal 137-138
Enjoy the pictures from yesterday and today!
PS ~ A couple of you were close on solving my mystery, but we need to be a bit more specific so here is an added list of clues:
7. My nickname is the City of Light.
9. I share my name with one of the Hilton sisters.
10. My people wear berets.
11. The rugrats visited me in a movie.
We also had our ANNUAL fifth grade verses the STAFF volleyball game! The Town of Sweets did an EXCELLENT job cheering on the TEACHERS! I loved hearing "GO MRS. JENKINS"! In MY opinion the TEACHERS won for sure! Mr. Day does such a great job getting us ALL involved! It was a FUN way for us to end the day!
Our hope to encourage the children in our classroom to love learning the way we do. Through engaging them in meaningful activities we are certain they will develop a curiosity that will spark their imagination and cause them to want discover all they can while in third grade. We hope to be able to share, with those of you at home, everyday what we have accomplished in the classroom! Trust us, we will be doing AMAZING things!
