Today was no different then the rest of our week as far as BUSY is concerned. We began the day with Mrs. E coming in and reading GREEN EGGS AND HAM TO US to kick off our Dr. Suess Day. And of course after hearing the story, we just had to try some of our very own green eggs and ham. The ham was super tender because it had been cooking all night and what do you know, even though the eggs were green they were still YUMMY in our TUMMY and made for a fun way to start the morning! While we were gobbling up our breakfast we had a little time to check out the Dr. Suess page on our website. It can be found under the MORE tab and here in third grade we've decided you can never outgrow Dr. Suess. His books are WONDERFUL!
After eating we had enough time for a short morning recess before we got to work learning this week's vocabulary words. We started creating a MEMORY game to play so that before NEXT THURSDAY we can play it several times to review those definitions. Mrs. Smith helped us with all but ONE of our cards. I cannot wait until tomorrow to check who followed directions and finished that last card up on their own. I am LOVING having an opportunity to observe the students just a little bit more since we have Mrs. Smith with us. When you're the lead teacher, sometimes you are so consumed with the lesson that some things are simply missed because after all we are human and only have one pair of eyes. =) But with Mrs. Smith here, I actually have been able to observe just which kiddos are going above and beyond, which kiddos are doing just what it takes to get by, and which kiddos may be needing to think twice whether or not they are really doing what needs to be done to prepare for fourth grade. I LOVE all of them, but boy do I APPRECIATE those of them who are going above and beyond right now! Trust me, they know who they are too. They are being rewarded for their hard work and great effort!
After our memory game we were lucky enough to be able to go to the all purpose room to watch the HIGH SCHOOL drama class put on a Suess performance. It was SUPER! They all did a TERRIFIC job and after they finished a couple of them came back to our room with us and read us a few Dr. Suess Stories. Mr. Reid Walker was recognized by them because he is our TOP READER and has already earned 97 points this year! WAY TO GO REID!
After LIBRARY CHECK OUT we worked more on our MATH INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK. We are learning all about LINES, RAYS, LINE SEGMENTS, and ANGLES right now. After our playdough activity yesterday several of us could jump in and answer questions about what we needed to be writing in our notebook. It was an AWESOME lesson and gave us a chance to get our math in right before lunch!
After music, we listened to Bartholomew and learned about his OOBLECK. We had a TERRIFIC time making ours! It's pretty amazing if you think about it. How can something be a SOLID and a LIQUID all at the same time? We sure did make a mess and some of us left with different colored hands then we had this morning when we got to school, but hey when you're learning just about anything is possible and everything has a purpose. Messy or not, we WERE learning! We decided the KING might not have been so smart wanting something like this OOBLECK to fall from the sky!
To end the day were were able to head back to the all purpose room to watch the teachers play the fifth graders in VOLLEYBALL! I know I am HAPPY to report that the teachers were able to hold on to being UNDEFEATED! It was an AWESOME way to end the day! I know we couldn't have been so good on the court without the third graders cheering us on! They did a SUPER job supporting us!
Remember we do have a SPELLING TEST tomorrow so get those CROSSWORD PUZZLES done and STUDY those compound words tonight so we can have lots of 100%'s in here! Also take care of that reading calendar tonight! New AR goals have been set for March and April. READ, READ. READ because no one wants to miss an AR CELEBRATION in third grade!
Have a SUPER evening and I will see you tomorrow!
