Math was more of a catch-up day for a lot of us. We had many students who needed to complete their menu folders, so we spent most of our morning completing our math work. Students who were finished could use the Chromebooks to play Zearn or Reflex. We did take some time to wrap up lesson 8 which was multiplication and division models for finding AREA. Today sometimes we knew the total area and the length of only ONE side. Our job was to find the missing side! We are becoming REAL EXPERTS at this! I am super excited about their fact fluency and know that the next time we all fastbridge they are gonna score off of the charts! If I can make them question things each day then I am doing my job and boy at the end of math some days they sure have questioned more then one thing. I LOVE the discovery though and I know they are sharpening their skills all the time!
In the afternoon, we read Chapter 5 of Mixed Up Files. In this chapter, we saw Jamie and Claudia research information about Michelangelo and how they could tell if the statue was real or fake. At the museum, they found new hiding spots under the furniture to stay out of sight. They also found the fountains and used it like a bathtub! While they were there, they got money out of the fountain to add to their stash. They learned that the Angel statue, which came from Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, was being moved to a different part of the museum because it has become so famous. I wonder what will happen next chapter... Anyone who can tell me just how much money they collected in the fountain will earn an extra bag of chips in the morning!
Our valentines party was sweet and sugary! We played Bingo, stacked sweethearts on popsicle sticks, and ate until our bellies hurt! I hope you don't get sick tonight and miss school tomorrow, because it will be another great day in third grade!
See you in the morning!
