First, though let us tell you about our morning! We came in and shared the adventures of FLAT GIDEON. He had visited Gideon's uncle and was lucky enough to fly in a refueling plane! We learned lots about the air force and Gideon even tried on his pilot hat for us! Our FLAT people that have come back sure have taught us some pretty cool things so far!
After morning meeting Mr. BLAKE ROTHS shared his dog with us for show and tell because he is Mrs. Day's student of the week. This was a fun way to start our morning for sure! We all got to pet his puppy and then it was time to roll right on in to calendar book time, take care of our spelling book, and do some cursive handwriting.
During GENIUS HOUR we worked on a MATH practice state assessment test. This test gave us a chance to see the different tools we could use, discuss some of the types of problems we might see, and talk about good test taking strategies. WOW, we really needed our genius caps because a couple of these problems were pretty tricky, but in the end we got them figured out and did a GREAT job! We will learn more about state assessments after spring break! If we take them like we practiced we will do a TERRIFIC job!
To end our morning we read all most all of CHAPTER 9 of Mixed Up Files. We will finish our story on Monday. Claudia and Jamie have finally met Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and are learning all kinds of things from her. She is just as interested in their adventures as they are in what she knows about angel. Mrs. Day and I can't wait to share the ending of the story with you! We will visit the museum on Tuesday so you can get an idea of what it must have been like for Claudia and Jamie to live in the museum for a week! This will be a fun trip for sure!
In the afternoon we finally were ready for our HOUSE CHALLENGE. We had three contests to test our TEAMWORK! The first one was ALL ABOARD. For this challenge, we laid out a tablecloth and when Mrs. Day hollered ALL ABOARD EVERYONE in each house had to get on the tablecloth at the same time. Each round the tablecloth got SMALLER and SMALLER! Integritas finally was declared the WINNER of the challenge! For the next challenge I built a tower in the hallway and Mrs. Day gave each house the same blocks that I used to build my tower. Each house could send one person at a time out to look at what I built and then come back in and tell their teammates how to build it. When they thought they had it right, Mrs. Day would check their tower and let them know if they had it build or not. If not, they could send another person out to look at the tower in the hallway! This took us awhile but finally VIRIBUS was declared the winners! For the third and final contest each house was given a hula hoop. They had to stand in a circle holding hands and pass the hula hoop all the way around the circle without dropping hands! Animo won this challenge! By the end of the contests EVERY single third grader was high fiving each other and congratulating one another on a great competition! It was truly AMAZING! Mrs. Day and I were SUPER PROUD of the kiddos for their good sportsmanship! WAY TO GO THIRD GRADE! YOU GUYS ROCK!!
After specials we took care of math. We worked more with FRACTIONS and took care of our MENU work. A lot of us are working on our MUSEUM room which is FANTASTIC. Don't forget that MENU work is all due this Friday! As soon as math was over we had a visit from MISS ADDI THOMSON'S puppy because she is my student of the week! 2 dogs in ONE day! WOW! It was an AWESOME way to end the day! We sure LOVE how hard Addi and Blake work in our classroom! Keep it up you two!!
Hope you have had a great weekend! We'll see you in the morning!
