In Reading we made a VOCABULARY CONCENTRATION game in our Reading Interactive Notebooks. We reviewed all of the vocabulary words from our story "What About ME" and then played our game one time here at school to make sure we all knew how to play. I told them that they MUST play with a friend, partner, or parent 2 more times before Thursday. Remember this Thursday is our SELECTION TEST and the first 8 questions this time will be VOCABULARY QUESTIONS!
We also did 2 of our READING ROTATIONS today. You might ask your kiddo which 2 rotations they went to today. If they didn't get there today, they WILL go tomorrow! Rotations were:
1. Reading a story about BARTERING with me.
2. Finishing up their CARPET gal or guy. We know the boy in our story asked
the grandmaster for knowledge, but this project lets us tell what we would
have asked for.
3. At TECHNOLOGY TIME we played the STUDY STACK vocabulary games on
4. At INDEPENDENT TIME we practiced chewing up a piece of gum and
blowing a bubble, then writing the steps a person would have to follow in
order to blow a bubble.
After lunch we finished up with Reading by completing a VOCABULARY PAPER just to see what we learned in the morning. This didn't take us too long and it was THE VERY FIRST PAPER to be handed in ALL YEAR where EVERY SINGLE PERSON in our class remembered their name and magic number! We are getting the hang of THIRD GRADE! WOO HOO! =)
In Math, we added to our Interactive Math Notebook. We have a large clock in our notebook already so we added 4 small clocks to review how to read time on an analog clock. This is tough for a few of us, so anytime you can ask your child what time it is and have them tell you by reading an analog clock that would be FANTASTIC practice. Next, we added a probability page to our notebook. We needed to review terms like IMPOSSIBLE, CERTAIN, LIKELY, and UNLIKELY. We also needed to go over one more time, what PROBABILITY means. We are learning a fun song to help us remember this! To finish up math, we worked on a journal page. Most of us were able to finish it, but if not I asked the kiddos to stick it in their TO DO FOLDER so that they could finish it in the morning.
Tonight they do have a new READING HOMEWORK CALENDAR in their folder. They also have a BLUE note explaining a little more about Accelerated Reader (AR) points and a YELLOW note explaining our BARTERING DAY. Be sure to read both of those for me.
Have a SPLENDID evening!
Here is the fun probability song we are learning!
The kids did a great job with it today!
