This morning we held our OCTOBER elections and we have some new COMMUNITY HELPERS which is always fun! Our new mayor is AYDEN! Our new Secretary is LUCY! We have two new treasurers, AUSTIN and JESSICA! Our new mail carrier is KALEB! Our new vet is DESTINY! Our new police officers are KAI, EMMA, and ELI! Congratulations to all of these kiddos! I know they are going to do a GREAT job! I reminded the kids today that if they were not hired this month they can apply again next month. We had lots that wanted to be our MAYOR, but we can only have one so I was very proud of the GREAT SPORTS that they were after COMMUNITY HELPERS were announced!
After elections were finished and our morning routine was completed we added some things to the WALLETS they made yesterday! They had to listen as I read our story, "Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday" and as they listened they had to decide how Alexander spent his money. With each thing he bought they were able to see his money trickle away. TONIGHT they need to retell someone at home the story using their wallets. This is just another way to practice SEQUENCE. After they show you their wallet and tell you about the story, please SIGN the back of their wallet so they get CREDIT for doing their HOMEWORK.
Then, we finished up our WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY reading centers. Please see how many of these they need to finish up. They should have them all done by tomorrow afternoon, but a couple kiddos did take them home tonight so they would not have to worry about them tomorrow. Centers were:
1. a SPELLING page and then spelling their words with scrabble pieces
2. reading a LEVELED READER with me and then taking an AR TEST
3. VERB GAMES and CAUSE AND EFFECT GAMES from our website
4. a VOCABULARY DICTIONARY to help them learn the words from the story
This afternoon we learned how to draw a SELF PORTRAIT and tomorrow we will finish these. I am very pleased with how some of these are turning out. Miss Wencel showed us lots of GREAT tips for drawing and then we went right to work. The kiddos have written out the steps explaining how to blow a bubble so tomorrow we will attach a bubble to their picture and then finish our final copies so that we can hang them in the hall.
Our bank trip has had to be postponed so tomorrow we will not be walking there. Next week, we will plan that trip again. We have soooo much that we have been learning about money that we are anxious to see it all in action!
Tonight for homework:
1. the kids have a reading workbook page to do
2. the kids need to use their wallets to retell the story to someone at home
Have a SUPER evening!
