We got to TOOT our own horn a bit today because Mr. Adams stopped by and Logan showed him how to SOLVE our nickel puzzle! He was IMPRESSED for sure. Several of us told him that JAMES MARSHALL was the VERY FIRST person to find gold and that he found it on JOHN SUTTER'S land. I even told Mr. Adams that some of us could definitely WIN on JEOPARDY if a category listed was over the GOLD RUSH. All he could do was agree because we had shown him our SMARTS!
Before morning meeting time this morning, we worked on a SPELLING PAPER. Putting things in ABC order isn't too hard when the words all start with a different letter. When we got to the S's and had three different words that started with an S, we had to stop and THINK some.
In reading we reviewed all of our VOCABULARY WORDS. Tonight the kiddos have the opportunity to practice these words using their INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS. If they do this, please sign their notebooks so that I can reward them tomorrow. With the SELECTION TEST being in the morning, I feel like reviewing might be a GREAT idea. The first 9 questions on their test will be over the VOCABULARY so it is super important to learn.
In math we worked on GRAPHING some class data and reviewed STATISTICAL LANDMARKS. We are really good at this because EVERY FRIDAY we fill out an ESTIMATION booklet using MAXIMUM, MINIMUM, RANGE, MODE, and MEDIAN. We decided that the ESTIMATION activity is a little more fun because someone WINS the candy inside it, but we ALL knew how to find the answers on the journal page which made for a VERY HAPPY TEACHER!
To end the day we took time to start a CELERY EXPERIMENT so we could learn how to use our SCIENCE JOURNALS and then we worked on our community! We have a PARK, a ROUND ABOUT, and TONS of HOUSES and BUSINESSES! We aren't done yet, but MAN IS IT LOOKING GOOD!
Don't forget to take care of the READING CALENDAR homework tonight and also that TOMORROW is our Old Settler's Day. The kiddos have a note explaining the next two days to you in their RED TAKE HOME FOLDERS. We've got lots going on in 3rd grade, so please read the note and see what we're up to!
Have a SUPER evening! I can't wait for TOMORROW!
