We started by making our FIRST DEPOSITS in to our CHECKBOOKS! WOO HOO! All that cash we have been earning is sure ADDING up. Our Mayors and Treasurers were busy taking everyone's money and making a deposit in to their accounts. Now when we need to WRITE A CHECK we will have money in the bank to COVER our check! =)
After morning jobs were done we were ready to start learning to be just like AMANDA in our story, "Boom Town". She made some DELICIOUS APPLE PIES so we thought we had better make one of our own! We each got our very own pie plate and kneaded the crust to fill the plate. Then we covered that crust with butter to make the crust that much more YUMMY! Next, we covered our apples with cinnamon and sugar so that they would bake into a bite of DELICIOUSNESS! Finally we added the top crust to our pie and then we all BAKED them in the oven. Even though Amanda used a skillet, and we used TIN PIE PLATES, they ALL came out smelling WONDERFUL! Everyone took one home so we sure hope you enjoyed seeing how hard they worked at mastering the craft of BAKING today!
Next, we took care of our ESTIMATION JAR! Our winners were super excited to get the baggie full of candy. Each side had only ONE winner this week so no one had to share the candy! We reviewed what the MINIMUM and MAXIMUM of our data was and then even learned how to GRAPH the data on a BAR GRAPH! Everyone did a really GOOD job with their GRAPHS. To finish math we worked together on a MATH BOX PAGE.
We then got BUSY again building COVERED WAGONS. This was a little tricky and it took some patience with the scissors and glue. Not all of us finished, but that's okay. We will get them done next week and then we will see whose WAGON was built the sturdiest. We will dump some pennies in each one and see which wagon will hold the most before it collapses. Last year ONE wagon was able to HOLD 57 PENNIES! My oh my! We can't wait to see if this class can top that number!
Our SUPER HEROES of the week were Claire Norris and Destiny Mata. They each had a chance for a short SHOW and TELL and will be joining us on our BIG CHEESE LUNCH DATE at the end of SEPTEMBER! We are SUPER PROUD of their efforts and want to send out a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to both of them!
To end our day, both classes had a SPECIAL TREAT! Mrs. Rausch came in as our MYSTERY READER. She read "The Stinky Cheese Man..." story to us and we all LOVED it. We learned a little about her and are so GLAD she was able to help us out with this project.
There is NO SCHOOL on MONDAY because of Labor Day so enjoy the LONG WEEKEND with your family! There is also NO HOMEWORK because we had such a GREAT week!
