We started our day by taking care of our answer garden. If you have not had a chance to check it out, feel free to. We are working on our WORD CHOICE and let me tell you this has been a challenge for us. You can find our thoughts by clicking on our WHAT ABOUT ME story tab and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. Each day I have been posting a new answer garden question for us to start with. We are trying to increase our vocabulary by coming up with a stronger word choice. These have been fun to look at. At the end of the week, we will look at all of them together and see what words we were able to discover! Words like "GOOD" and "BIG" will no longer will be used in our writing I am hoping!
Then, we worked on our calendar book and our spelling hunk and chunk work. I think I could almost take a break during this time because these kiddos know the routine and can teach me what I need to know which is GREAT news! Guess I better step up my game so we can push on and learn even more! I am so impressed with what they are showing me during this time!
In Reading time, we were able to put our story in order based on different sentences which means we CHECKED off anther LEARNING INTENTION! Such good news! I think EVERY single person in my class did this with 100 % accuracy today! We also reviewed what our goal for the week is and we only have one thing left to do in order to take this goal strand completely off the board! I don't know about you all but checking things off a list sure is a good feeling!
To end the morning we worked WRITING A GOOD LEAD. We have learned four ways to write a lead: With sound words, with action words, with a question, and with dialogue. Mrs. Day and I modeled how this might look if we were writing a story about from a prompt card we had been given. Then the kiddos were divided into groups of 3 and each group took a prompt card and wrote leads for that story. After writing time some groups had time to share their leads and the class RATED each groups work. The LEADS were really good and the RATING lead to some really great discussion! We are learning so much about becoming great writers and we are making such good progress! I cannot wait to share with mom and dad some of your work at conference time!
After lunch some of us started a PEN PAL project! We are kicking off a KINDNESS CAMPAIGN with a third grade class from Enterprise Elementary School in Wichita. Our first assignment was to introduce ourselves. Tomorrow we will meet our penpals and then teach them a little about EISENHOWER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! This project is SUPER exciting and I cannot wait to get a little further into it so our kiddos can begin to challenge the Enterprise students to make a difference in their school!
We ended the day with our SECOND GRADE math buddies, more with KILOGRAMS and GRAMS, and a BIRTHDAY! Happy Birthday Brett! It was an FANTASTIC day and we sure are learning lots in third grade!
If you can tell me one thing around your house that would weigh about 1 gram, one thing that would weigh about 10 grams, one thing that would weigh about 100 grams, and one thing that would weigh about 1 kilogram in the comment section I will pay you an extra $4 tomorrow morning at morning meeting! If you struggle finding things, check labels of things. Remember a plain m & m weighs about one gram!
Have a super evening!
